Just Feel Like Whining... Whine With Me!

Posted on 2009.01.13 at 19:18
Current Mood: cranky
So, yeah, I live in the Northeast... and we're all about to be slammed with nasty cold weather. SUCK. I know it'll get colder in places than it will be here, but dammit, I'm still going to whine about it. LOL!

The high today was in the mid-30s. Tomorrow is supposed to be 10. The overnight low Thurs into Friday is supposed to be in the negative numbers. *whimper* *takes inventory of all the blankets in the apartment*

The worst part is going to be the ice. So much stuff melted today with the above freezing temps... and the water really has nowhere to go with all the snow piles. Plus, at certain temps, all the salting in the world won't do jack shit. I dread driving to work in the morning.

So, yeah, I just wanted to piss and moan a little, while I am sending music to my phone via Bluetooth... :) I'm having to do one song at a time, unless there are a few in a row that I want to load. Fun times.

Is it cruise time yet?! Seriously. LOL!

Totally willing to trade you. It has been in the 80s here. It's JANUARY, for chrissakes. It should NOT be this hot.

You wouldn't be saying that if you've actually pondered how many pairs of underwear you could put on without your ass looking funny. ;)

Or if you can wrap a fleece blanket around you in such a way that you're still mobile and functional, yet completely covered.

Like when the "Snuggie" blanket on television actually starts sounding like a good idea.

There hasn't been that much snow this year, but it's been non-stop winter. The first year we went on the cruise, we had 70 degree weather the week before we left. Then it dropped down the day after I headed to Miami. That was perfect timing in my book, until I got back and had 6 weeks of misery.

Now I'm thinking that perfect timing would be leaving during the last full week of cold miserable weather, and returning to unseasonably warm temperatures and the end of Winter.

Oh, sure I would. I love the cold. It's heat that I can't deal with.

Oh, and I can do the fleece blanket thing. :)

I will gladly whine with you!

Thurs. the high will be -5 and the low at least -15.

I am sooo glad I don't have university classes until next week. That's about a 15 min. walk each way to get from the bus stop to my building. *shivers*

OMG. That's a cold damned walk!

The town I work in has no school buses... almost all the kids walk (it's a tiny little townlet called East Rochester). They probably won't have school the rest of the week, by my guess. ;)

I know, it would be very cold indeed. There is a tunnel system, but it only covers the central part of campus, and I'm out in the boonies.

But, if this weather continues into next week, I might have to map out the tunnels and see how close I can get staying warm...probably not very far, but 10 minutes freezing would be better than 15, lol!

LOL! RIT flashback!

RIT has a system of tunnels, too... all the dorms are connected, and many of the academic buildings (can't speak for the new ones built since I graduated). However, the two systems are NOT connected to each other -- and the "Quarter Mile" across campus is a bitch. But I'd walk as fast as I could across the quarter mile each day, entering the tunnels on the academic side under the gym, and work my way over to the admin building, upstairs across the hallway where the Bursar's office is, and then zip across the courtyard into the Photo/Printing building, to get to the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences building, where my classes were. It was like a quest... a quest to get to class on time, and stay warm.

There WAS that one day, though... wind chill was -60, and they WOULD NOT close the school (RIT rarely closes -- if it does, you know it's bad). Very few people that I know went to class that day. *brr*

It's a quest for us too. The thing is, the tunnel system isn't all on the same level and not all buildings connect, so on a long haul, you're zig-zagging up and down and you really need a map to be sure you can get to where you want to go.
